Last weekend Jenn Page, BHRS Chairman, attended two Remembrance Services to commemorate the Armistice Day Centenary. On Sunday morning 11th November she laid a wreath at the Lych Gate War Memorial at St John's Church, and later attended the church service.

On Monday afternooon she attended the service at St. Stephen’s Church organised by Buckhurst Hill Community Primary School with the Buckhurst Hill Gardening Club and the Royal British Legion.  Year Five pupils attended, they read poems and laid wreaths from local groups, including the Parish Council, the Residents’ Society and the School, at the War Memorial outside the church.

Stephen Goddard, Chairman of the Buckhurst Hill Branch of the British Legion, read the Exultation which was followed by The Last Post, played by a uniformed bugler of the 17th PALS Battalion Band (the 17th Pals Battalion Middlesex Regiment in the Great War was known as the Footballers’ Battalion, local football clubs enlisted, fought and died together in the war).

Two pupils read out each of the names of the soldiers engraved on the war memorial, which was very moving.

The second photograph is of Stephen Goddard with the British Legion Standard Bearer at the war memorial after the laying of the wreaths.
